Yes, any mobile phone will work as long as it is able to send and receive SMS text messages.

How does BuyPower work?

BuyPower allows the purchase of prepaid electricity by SMS. To purchase electricity, SMS your prepaid meter number to 76937 (POWER). Your $10 prepaid electricity token will be returned in an SMS. A $10 convenience fee also applies so a total of $20 will be deducted from your airtime balance.

BuyPower does not support all prepaid meters. To check if your meter is supported, use the Check My Meter function on this website. Also see the MY METER page to check what regions are supported. You will be billed even if your meter is not supported.

How much electricity can I purchase?

BuyPower allows the purchase of $10 of electricity at a time. There is no limit to how many times you use the service.

A total of $20 will be deducted from your airtime balance. ($10 electricity + $10 convenience fee)

Is BuyPower a subscription service?

No. You will only be billed when you send an SMS to our service.

What if I have been billed but have not received my token?

Before contacting us, please check the following:

  • make sure you have at least $20 available credit on your mobile phone balance
  • check that you have sent your SMS to the correct number: 76937 (POWER)
  • check your mobile phone message inbox thoroughly for missed or unread SMS messages

If you still have not received your token please contact us by email with your mobile number, meter number and the date and time of the transaction at support@buypowernamibia.com.

Why is there a convenience fee?

BuyPower is designed as an emergency prepaid electricity purchase option. To make the service convenient, the cost of electricity is billed directly to your airtime balance. This convenience is made possible through the mobile network operators in Namibia. However, for this convenience, the mobile network operators do charge a high transaction fee. Unfortunately we are obligated to pass this fee on to the consumer.

We understand that the convenience fee may appear high and we recommend you also consider other prepaid electricity payment options.
